Position: General Maintenance Worker
Supervised By: Director of Facilities

Objective/Purpose: O'Fallon Township High School District #203 is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Worker to support safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities for our students and staff. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a learning environment that is secure, efficient, and welcoming.

The Maintenance Worker performs hands-on repairs, preventive maintenance, and responds to facility needs across District buildings and grounds. The work is varied and requires initiative, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and pride in quality workmanship.

This role works as part of a facilities team under the direction of the Director of Facilities and contributes directly to the daily operation and long-term upkeep of District property.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your work will span five broad areas of facilities maintenance:

• Building Repairs & Carpentry: Building repairs and carpentry, doors, windows, walls, flooring, hardware, furniture, and structures
• Mechanical & Systems: Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, and building systems, routine maintenance, basic repairs, and helping prepare equipment for inspections
• Preventive Maintenance: Keeping equipment and systems running through scheduled inspections, lubrication, filter changes, belt adjustments, and seasonal prep
• Safety & Security: Monitoring safety equipment, maintaining emergency egress, supporting fire and health inspections, and securing buildings at end of day
• General Support: Driving district vehicles, delivering supplies, assisting custodial and grounds staff, and handling unexpected situations as they arise

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with familiarity in maintenance and repair procedures across the building trades, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, roofing, and related areas. You should be comfortable operating the hand tools and power tools commonly used in this work, familiar with building systems such as HVAC, fire suppression, security, and communications, and able to work independently in a busy school facility.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license
• Familiarity with maintenance and repair procedures across the building trades � mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, roofing, and related areas
• Ability to operate hand tools and power tools commonly used in this work
• Familiarity with building systems such as HVAC, fire suppression, security, and communications
• Ability to read and follow multi-step instructions, blueprints, and safety data sheets
• Basic math skills; ability to comply with safety, building code, and ADA requirements
• No criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting over 100 lbs.
• Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions; occasional exposure to chemicals, fumes, and noise
• Some positions may include weekend shifts or 24-hour on-call availability

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• $18.25/hr, per the Service Workers CBA
