Building Maintenance Worker

Job Description:
Performs semi-skilled building maintenance, repair, construction, and groundskeeping activities involving the operation and upkeep of buildings and related equipment. Work includes a variety of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, heating, painting, and general building maintenance tasks. Work is performed under immediate or general supervision, depending upon the nature of the assignment, with some leeway for the use of independent judgment in completing assigned work. Supervision may be exercised over the work of one or more helpers. Does related work as required. Assignment is subject to change. Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position is required. Which may include crawling, kneeling, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying of up to 50lbs.

Typical Work Activities:

• Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, welding, and general building repairs.
• Performs repairs and maintenance to heating plant equipment, steam and water piping, and related building systems.
• Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, waterlines, drains, electrical outlets, lighting, and related building components.
• Performs carpentry work, including construction and installation of partitions, doors, cabinets, tables, shelving, and other fixtures.
• Repairs doors, locks, windows, cabinets, desks, tables, office furniture, and other building components.
• Performs painting and related preparation work using various types of paint and materials.
• Mixes plaster and concrete and assists with brickwork, plastering, and finishing concrete work.
• Performs repairs and maintenance to existing buildings and facilities.
• Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including planting, pruning, mowing, grading, seeding, and general upkeep of grounds.
• Repairs and sharpens tools and maintains equipment used in building maintenance activities.
• Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors, and other motorized equipment as required.
• Performs a variety of custodial and other building maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Performs incidental clerical and messenger duties as required.
• May supervise and assist one or more helpers in the performance of assigned maintenance tasks.
• Consults with supervisors regarding unusual maintenance problems and makes recommendations concerning repairs, materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance or building trades work.

Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid NYS Driver's License.

Anticipated Salary: $24.75-$27.39 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
