Substitute

Primary Purpose:
Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include, but not limited to, taking attendance, explaining homework, and maintaining classroom cleanliness. Candidates need to be flexible in their availability.

Substitute Teacher Responsibilities:

• Adhering to the curriculum and lesson plans assigned by the regular teacher.
• Following procedures and achieving lesson goals.
• Assigning and explaining homework.
• Overseeing students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways and cafeteria.
• Complying with all school regulations and policies at all times.
• Taking attendance and documenting daily notes.
• Ensuring the classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly.
• Overseeing the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
• Compiling a report for the teacher for when they return.

Substitute Teacher Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Bachelor’s degree in teaching is preferred.
• Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Applicants must work well with children and adults.
• Experience in working with children is preferred.

Basic pay rates: Daily

• $80 - High School Diploma, GED or 0-59 College Hours, No Degree
• $85 - Associates Degree or 60+ College Hours but no Bachelor's Degree
• $90 - Bachelor's Degree
• $100 - Certified Teacher

**Long term assignments are subject to a higher daily rate depending on substitute teacher qualifications and terms of the assignment. Pay rates are available on the school website
**If hired, the applicant is responsible for the cost of being fingerprinted before being allowed in the classroom.
**Those who are hired will be required to attend a substitute teacher orientation/training and all required paperwork must be completed in order to be placed on the active substitute teacher list.
