General Function:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures which provide staff and students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work, learn, play and develop.

Education/Training/Experience:

Minimum: None.
Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Some cleaning and maintenance experience. Bilingual: English-Spanish.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures. Demonstrated ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment safely. Demonstrated ability to properly and safely handle cleaning supplies. Knowledge of minor repair techniques, building and grounds maintenance.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.

2. Keeps school building and grounds neat and clean; including but not limited to sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas.

3. Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.

4. Assists in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and requests additional supplies as needed.

5. Assists with lunchroom set up and break down, including arranging tables and chairs.

6. Performs preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students and staff.

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Task List:

1. Opens gates and all buildings upon arrival

2. Turns burglar alarm off and on

3. Checks building for maintenance and problems

4. Raises and lowers flags

5. Sweeps or vacuums all areas

6. Empties all wastebaskets, big boys and garbage cans

7. Dusts and washes chalkboards

8. Dusts all furniture throughout building

9. Cleans and disinfects sinks, fountains, restrooms, and showers

10. Replaces light bulbs

11. Refills towel, toilet and soap dispensers

12. Mops and disinfects all restrooms, cafeteria and shower room floors

13. Sets up cafeteria tables for lunch, clean trays, clean and store tables after lunch

14. Mops all wet areas

15. Cleans all graffiti

16. Cleans tops of lockers and writings on lockers

17. Performs minor repairs.

18. Dusts windowsills and railings

19. Keeps all boiler rooms clean and safe

20. Keeps walks and porches clean and clear of ice

21. May assist with keeping grounds clean, safe, and free of trash

22. Cleans bleachers and underneath them

23. Secures entire complex at the end of the day

24. Buffs floors

25. Stores all custodial supplies and equipment

26. Keeps all custodial equipment operable

27. Keeps custodial closets clean and safe

28. Sweeps and spot mop gym floor

29. Waxes gym floor and hallways

30. Washes windows (lobby - office)

31. Dusts and washes walls and fixtures

32. Strips, polishes, seals and varnishes floors

33. Cleans skylights

34. Cleans Venetian blinds and drapes

35. Washes student desks, tables and bookshelves

36. Shampoos carpets

37. Cleans basement

38. Washes classroom windows

Salary Range and Benefits:

$36,400-$37,024+ Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees that work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

Broom, mops, water buckets, dustpans, rags and towels, cleaning products, ladders, snow shovels, electric cleaning appliances.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift or exert force of up to 100 pounds. Must be safety conscious as job requirements provide multiple opportunities for injuries.

Environmental Conditions:

Work mostly inside and occasionally outside, on slippery, icy or uneven walking surfaces. Exposure to varied temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
