Maintenance Technician (M-5)

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor DEPT./SCHOOL: Maintenance

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas driver’s license

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures required.

Knowledge of Basic Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC repair procedures required.

Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively (electronically & verbally).

Ability to operate power and hand tools.

Ability to work independently.

Basic computer skills.

Experience:

Five years experience in general building maintenance

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Skilled in repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
• Inspect building exterior, interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment
• Complete repairs as requested on assigned work orders.
• Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
• Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
• Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
• Install and maintain security and alarm systems.
• Assist IPM coordinator and Asbestos Designated person with the IPM plan and Asbestos management plan.
• Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
• Maintains complete records of all work accomplished.
• Follows administrative procedures regarding work orders.
• Performs all general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, welder (gas and electric air), concrete mixer, mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger and garden tools, Environmental, electrical and HVAC test equipment.

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate verbally understands verbal and written directions, and work with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to operate power and hand tools. Work outside and inside. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and odors. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles.
