Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (A3)

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education; DAYS/DATE(S): 187; Stipend $1000

Primary Purpose

Provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
• Valid driver's license with driving record that meets District requirements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions
• Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions
• Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

• Minimum of six months experience in a school setting is preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in the Individual Education Plans (IEP)
• Analyze student data to make recommendations regarding readingness for therapy services
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to facilitate the generalization of skills demonstrated in therapy to the classroom under the direct supervision of an SLP
• Troubleshoot problems with assistive devices for the purpose of ensuring equipment is in proper working order
• Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for maturity level and interests of students
• Develop schedules for student services to be carried out efficiently and effectively and ensure all sessions are held
• Proficient use of technology and office equipment
• Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
• Comply with all campus district, state and federal guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Keep informed of new state and federal guidelines and policies
• Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators
• Collaborate with Supervising Speech Language Pathologist, including keeping Supervising SLP informed of student mastery of goals, making recommendations, accepting supervisory feedback, etc.
• Engage in SHARS billing
• Other duties as assigned

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Travel will be required between the campuses and around the district. The position may involve possible exposure to blood or body fluids
