Assistant Mechanic

Sherrard Community Unit School District #200, Sherrard, Illinois, has an opening for an assistant mechanic for the transportation department. The position is a 12-month position, 8 hours per day. JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Assistant Mechanic, Transportation Program
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have at least one year experience in diesel maintenance and/or repair.
Must possess a valid driver's license
Evidence of initiative, ingenuity, loyalty and willingness to cooperate.

REPORTS TO: Head Mechanic or Superintendent

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain all district-owned diesel bus fleet and gas vehicles.

• Primary duties include oil changes, replace hydraulic brake systems, remove and replace transmissions, maintain air conditioning systems and major repairs as needed.

• Maintain safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations.

• Maintain accurate record of repairs and general maintenance on district-owned vehicles.

• Communicate with Transportation Supervisor, Head Mechanic and drivers regarding vehicle condition and needed repairs.

• To perform any other duties as requested by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be established annually by the Board of Education.
COMPENSATION: To be set annually by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools
