Job Overview
We are looking for a full-time Special Education Teacher. The Special Education Teacher instructs students in academic subjects and social interaction skills. The teacher will plan curriculum and prepare lesson plans and other instructional materials to meet the needs of each individual student that includes physical, emotional, and educational levels of development. Leads the multi-disciplinary team in providing best practices for students, and promotes Illinois state learning standards through well planned lessons which complement each students' individual learning style. Confers with parents/legal guardians, administrators, support service providers, and social workers to develop and implement an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each
student.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Create and execute individual education plans for each of the students in your care
• Communicate with other staff and family members about each student's progress

and struggles

• Prepare detailed lesson plans at weekly and submit them to administrators for approval
• Participate in IEP (individual education plan) meetings as scheduled by the school
• Use individualized reinforcement techniques to keep each student on the path

toward greatness

• Invite family members to participate in each student's educational progress
• Create and distribute progress reports quarterly
• Confer with on-site therapist over disciplinary and behavioral issues with students
• Create a safe, productive classroom environment

with students.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelors Degree in Education from an accredited College or University.
• 1 to 2 years experience working in a special education setting preferred.
• Illinois LBS 1 Teacher Licensure (K-12).
• Valid Driver's License in good standing.
• Knowledge of appropriate educational needs for all ages of students.
• Ability to identify student needs and incorporate needs into the student's IEP
• Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents and families.
• Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate education records according to policy and state regulations/standards.
• Knowledge of appropriate interventions with students.
