Auto Body Teacher

TITLE: Teacher, Auto Body - Career & Tech
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Month
REPORTS TO: Career & Tech Building Principal

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Provide training to juniors and seniors with classroom instruction, project-based learning and hands-on skills that would prepare students to be college and career ready in the various fields of Automotive Body.

• Communicate with parents, teachers, home school counselors and others involved with the education of the student
• Maintain discipline in the classroom and work sites
• Monitor students’ academic progress including, but not limited to progress/marking period grades, attendance, hands-on performance skills
• Implement 504 plans and IEPs for students with diverse learning needs
• Keep current with changes and development in automotice technology industries
• Other responsibilities as determined by the CTE Principal

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Teaching and work experience in the Automotive Body Industry to include in-depth, comprehensive and appropriate work experience in repair. Significant recent professional experience in automotive collision repair and refinishing, preferably in a professional body shop or automotive repair facility. Demonstrated experience with minor and major collision damage assessment and repair. Experience with body panel replacement, metal repair, body filler, sanding, preparation, and refinishing/painting techniques. Experience with automotive refinishing systems, including surface preparation, masking, paint application, and finishing. Experience working with hand tools, power tools, welders, lifts, and shop equipment, with strong emphasis on proper equipment operation.Excellent interpersonal skills and work ethic.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have or be eligible for: NYS Career and Technical Education Certification in Vehicle Body Repair & Painting 7-12.
