Family and Community Engagement Liaison

Department: Camp Administration
Reports to: Native American Education Program Coordinator, with District collaboration from the Director of Federal Program
Placement: Classified Non-exempt Salary Schedule, Grade 8
Term: See Duty Day Calendar

Position Summary:
The Family & Community Engagement Liaison supports student attendance, engagement, and academic persistence through proactive communication and collaboration between the school, families, and community partners. This position works closely with site administration, counseling staff, and program leadership to strengthen student connection to school and reduce barriers to graduation. This role may provide services across multiple comprehensive high school campuses as assigned. In addition, the Liaison provides support for structured academic environments such as the Momentum Room and assists with culturally enriched and project-based learning initiatives. The Liaison utilizes trauma-informed and strengths-based practices to foster safe, supportive learning environments that promote student resilience, accountability, and positive relationships. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support family engagement events and community-based activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists administration in attendance improvement and drop-out prevention efforts.
  • Supports early identification of students at risk of disengagement.
  • Maintains consistent communication with students and families regarding attendance and academic progress.
  • Conducts home visits using personal transportation when appropriate and approved.
  • Applies, trauma-informed and strengths-based strategies to support students experiencing academic, social, or personal challenges.
  • Collaborates with counseling and administrative staff to support student persistence and graduation pathways
  • Reports suspected abuse, neglect, or safety concerns in accordance with district policy and state law.
  • Provides direct support to students in structured academic settings such as the Momentum Room, assisting with credit recovery, assignment completion, and academic engagement.
  • Encourages student accountability while maintaining a supportive relationship centered approach.
  • Reinforces expectations aligned with graduation goals.
  • Works collaboratively with counselors and program staff; does not provide certified counseling services.
  • Develops and maintains a two-way communication link between the school and families, community partners, and local organizations.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and executing cultural family engagement nights and other community-based events.
  • Participates in and supports school-related events that may occur outside of the regular school day, including evenings and weekends.
  • Provides families with information about available school and community resources.
  • Maintains accurate records of outreach efforts, home visits, family engagement activities, and student participation.
  • Assists with documentation and data tracking required under Johnson O'Malley (JOM), Title VI Indian Education, and other applicable federal or tribal programs.
  • Supports preparation of reports and data summaries as requested by program leadership to ensure compliance and program accountability.
  • Assists in facilitating culturally enriched activities and project-based learning experiences in collaboration with teachers, community partners, and guest presenters.
  • Supports implementation of hands-on community-connected learning initiatives.
  • Helps coordinate logistics related to student participation in engagement activities.
  • Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students preferred.
  • Previous experience in student engagement, community outreach, or school support roles preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practices in educational settings preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred, fluency in Spanish or an Indigenous language is highly desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Ability to provide own transportation and proof of insurance.
  • Valid Class I IVP DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler's Card after hire.

Knowledge of:

  • Community engagement practices.
  • Student attendance and engagement strategies.
  • Trauma-informed approaches that support student well-being and positive behavior.
  • Documentation and reporting requirements associated with federal and tribal education programs.
  • General office equipment and basic technology tools.

Skill In:

  • Building positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
  • Applying trauma-informed and relationship-based strategies to student support.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment.
  • Being well-organized and able to multi-task.
  • Supporting students in structured academic environments.
  • Maintaining professionalism and composure in varied situations.

Positions in this class typically require climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
