Bus Driver

Thorndale ISD is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and student-focused individual to join our transportation team as a Bus Driver.

Position Summary

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other district-related events while providing a positive and professional environment for students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely transport students along assigned routes and to district activities.
• Operate a school bus in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws and district policies.
• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment on the bus.
• Follow assigned routes and schedules.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, campus staff, and transportation personnel.
• Report accidents, mechanical problems, student concerns, and other incidents promptly.
• Maintain required transportation records and documentation.
• Assist students with entering and exiting the bus as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
• Attend required training and maintain all required certifications and licenses.
• Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must meet all requirements established by the Texas Department of Public Safety and applicable state and federal regulations for school bus drivers.
• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required school bus and passenger endorsements.
• Must successfully complete all required school bus driver training.
• Must successfully complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and drug/alcohol testing.
• Must meet applicable physical and medical requirements.
• Must demonstrate good judgment, dependability, patience, and the ability to work effectively with students.
• Previous school bus driving experience is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

• Work may involve early morning and afternoon routes.
• Additional hours may be available for athletic events, field trips, extracurricular activities, and other district transportation needs.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when assisting students.
• Must be able to safely assist students with entering and exiting the bus.
