Building Maintenance/Custodial Worker

The Position

The Voorheesville Central School District has an immediate opening for a Building Maintenance/Custodial Worker. The hourly wage for this position will be based on the UEV contract’s salary schedule. This person will work under the immediate supervision of the Head Custodian.

General Duties

• Work as Custodial Worker includes routine cleaning and semi-skilled maintenance tasks and related work as required. Examples of work include, but are not limited to: sweeps, mops and waxes floors; washes walls, windows and blackboards; cleans lavatories and locker rooms; assists with snow removal; empties wastebaskets and disposes of rubbish; makes minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, and other equipment.
• Work as Maintenance Worker includes performing semi-skilled work involving responsibility for independently performing a variety of mechanical and other building maintenance tasks as needed. Examples of work include, but are not limited to: perform semi-skilled work in masonry, carpentry, electrical or painting operations; help install and repair wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment; repair windows, doors, floors; interior and exterior painting; help to install and repair general plumbing equipment; operates trucks and other motorized equipment. Experience in sports field maintenance, snow removal and lawn care beneficial.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Hours: Generally M-F (6:00a.m.-2:30p.m.), some weekends, as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate, applicable training beyond high school a plus.
• Willingness to work as needed.
• Neat appearance (uniform required).
• Willingness to work the schedule that best suits the District needs.
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
• One (1) year of experience in either general building construction or maintenance work in one or more of the standard trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or grounds keeping.
