Certification

• New York State (NYS) Teaching Certification is preferred.
• Non-certified substitutes may be considered based on district needs.
• For eligibility requirements, please review the NYS Education Department Substitute Teaching Guidelines prior to applying.

Compensation

• $145 per day - Non-certified substitutes
• $155 per day - NYS certified substitutes
• $175 per day - Retired West Irondequoit teachers

Primary Responsibility

Substitute teachers play an essential role in supporting student success. At West Irondequoit, substitutes provide high-quality instruction and social-emotional support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Job Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Effective problem-solving skills to address daily classroom challenges
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to understand and follow district policies and procedures
• Adherence to the West Irondequoit Central School District Code of Conduct
• Fingerprint clearance from the New York State Education Department
• Must meet educational qualifications as outlined by the NYS Education Department

Essential Duties

• Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with district policies and regulations
• Follow and implement lesson plans effectively
• Assist with arrival, dismissal, and other duties as assigned
• Apply classroom management strategies to maintain a productive learning environment
• Interact with students and staff in a respectful and professional manner
