Duties include using, supplying or holding material or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment. Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent Must successfully complete a TDLR apprentice application upon hire, if not already attained Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to learn and apply electrical methods, practices, and applicable building codes, regulations or ordinances. Ability to use electrical materials, tools, equipment, and testing instruments such as multi-meter, volt-ohm meter, amp-probe, etc. Ability to perform duties requiring frequent medium-heavy physical effort. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and learn to interpret drawings, blueprints and/or schematics. Ability to use a computer. Ability to work in safe and efficient manner. Ability to make and work from measurements and to make mathematical computations required to complete assigned tasks. Must successfully complete a TDLR apprentice application upon hire, if not already attained Experience: One year of experience in electrical installation and repair Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repair • Assist with install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints. • Assist with install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc. • Assist with install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints. • Assist with diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment. • Assist with test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments. • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender. • Assist with repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc. • Assist with receiving and completing work orders. • Assist with selection of materials and hardware and make time and material estimates. • Assist with maintenance of accurate records on material and labor used. • Assist with maintenance of inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. • Assist with inspection of jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. • Assist with detection of needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. • Respond to emergency calls as needed. Safety • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe bender and threader; hand and power tools (saw, drill, etc.); trencher; jackhammer; concrete saw; ladder.
