Qualifications: Education: Master’s degree from accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001) Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of library science Ability to instruct and manage student behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Proficiency in technology tools and services Experience: 2 years classroom experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instruction • Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques to utilize both print and electronic resources. • Consult teachers on appropriate use of materials and help them schedule materials and electronic resources for classroom instruction. • Serve as information resource for users of library/media center materials and provide staff development opportunities for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district print and electronic learning resources. Library Programs • Effectively plan school library program to meet identified needs. • Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources. • Attend workshops/conventions to improve knowledge and awareness of current trends in library science and technology. • Earn continuing education hours to maintain certificate validity. • Coordinate access to community resources and information. Collaborate with public librarians to organize events and activities. • Maintain schedules for technology resources within the library/media center. Provide instruction in use of technology and electronic resources. Encourage use for educational purposes • Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students. • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Student Management • Carry out discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations. • Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library. Administration • Compile, budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs. • Compile, maintain, and analyze library/media reports with regards to improving services, further meeting campus and patron needs. Make changes based on the findings • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the library/media services area. • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Communication • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise clerical aide(s), student aides, and volunteers. Equipment Used: Personal computer, printer, scanner, and other technology as needed.
