Assistant Head Coach--Girls Varsity Basketball (Winter Season)

ASSISTANT HEAD COACH

Job Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the Head Coach with all assigned duties and coaching. The Assistant Coach, under the guidance of the Head Coach, will provide direction to the student athletes so that they might achieve a higher level of skill, as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

• NYSED Coach Certification or Certified Teacher with CPR, First Aid and Concussion Certification.
• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• The assistant coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
• The assistant coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Primary Activities:

• Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Yorktown Central School District's Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation.
• Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations and implements them consistently and interprets them for staff.
• Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
• Continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks, Other duties may be assigned as appropriate:

• Follows and maintains knowledge of all District Policies and Procedures.
• Exhibits loyalty to the philosophy of the Head Coach.
• Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
• Assists in planning and setting up activities, practices and games.
• Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
• Adheres to all financial policies of the District in regard to fundraising.
• Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and health lifestyles.
• Supervises students in locker rooms ensuring appropriate behavior.
• Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
• Ensures that medical and safety requirements are followed.
• Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff parents, fellow coaches and officials and resolves conflicts in a professional manner.
• Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and inquiries.
• Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students, parents, community, staff and the media.
• Completes and maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required by NYS Public High School Athletic Association.
• Attends work regularly and is punctual.
• Attends in-service training, pre-season coaches and parent meetings.
• The assistant coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Season: Winter - November 9, 2026 - March 14, 2027
Stipend: $7,359.51
