Tradesperson - Bus Mechanic

Description: Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Transportation, the individual is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repairs, and replacement of vehicles and related equipment.

Job Summary: 8.0 hours/day, 5 days/week, 260 days/year

• Insure that accurate records are kept for work performed -- including hours and parts.
• Oversee the preparation and presentation of buses to the State Highway Patrol

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write
• Ability to perform basic math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
• Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair usually gained through two (2) years of on-the-job training/experience or graduation from a trade school in the applicable trades areas.
• Ability to coordinate and relay directions to fellow workers from Supervisor.
• Ability to lift at least 70 pounds.
• Good motor coordination, finger and manual dexterity and physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the job.
• Knowledge of the safe use of shop tools and equipment.
• Must obtain a State of Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake, school bus and passenger endorsement within the first 6 months of employment. Training may be provided.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications unique to area of responsibility.
• Familiarity with federal, state and local building codes unique to area of responsibility.
• Basic tools required
• Basic computer skills

• Formal schooling in diesel and gasoline engine repair
• Basic welding skills

Salary: $30.15/hour, Step 1
