Job Title: Media Specialist
Reports To: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent

Job Purpose: To provide the expertise to evaluate, select, classify, schedule, and utilize print and non-print materials and equipment for the purpose of activity participating in the instructional program.

Qualifications-Required:
Master's Degree from an accredited college/university
NJDOE Educational Media Specialist Certification
Experience working in a school environment
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents
Ability to select and provide access to a wide variety of materials that meet the needs of the various learning situations.
Ability to organize, catalogue, display, distribute, and produce instructional materials.
Knowledge and ability to teach information and technology literacy needed for independent learning.
Ability to provide an environment conducive to quick accessibility and study habits and development of proficient media users.
Knowledge and ability to work with technology and assist integration in the classroom.
Ability to be flexible in order to accommodate teachers, students, parents/guardians, and others.
Knowledge of civil rights relating to free access to materials and copyright laws.
Ability to pass the Criminal History Review
Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure

Qualifications-Desired:
2-3 years as a Media Specialist

Duties/Responsibilities:
Consults with building principals and/or supervisors and teachers about needs for printed materials to aid in the instructional process
Evaluates, selects and places orders for books, periodicals, pamphlets, pictures and other instructional and reference materials
Shelves, index inventory and keeps in repair all instructional materials housed in the media center.
Promotes ethical and efficient information seeking behaviors
Models a variety of effective research techniques for a variety of formats for diverse purposes.
Models and practices legal and ethical practices
Remains familiar with the curriculum content and instructional practices within the building
Collaborates with and coaches teachers to provide instructional strategies and resources in teaching information and technology literacy skills
Solicits input from teachers and students concerning media needs
Prepares bibliographies for curricular and extra-curricular assignments of students
Teaches library science to classes as scheduled
Develops rules and regulations necessary for the effective use and operation of the media center
Maintains an accurate and current inventory of media materials and equipment, and submits reports in a timely manner
Assists with the development and administration of the building media budget
Stays abreast with current trends in education
Arranges for the inspection, maintenance, replacement, and repair of media following district guidelines
Arranges and decorates the media center

Prorated Salary Range of $63,391 (MA, Step 1) to $100,512 (MA, Step 13)
