Lunch/Recess Monitor Grades K-5

Position Title: Lunch/Recess Monitor (K–5)
Employment Status: Annual Position
Hourly Rate: $14.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Lunch/Recess Monitor is responsible for providing a safe, positive, and well-supervised environment for elementary students during lunch and recess periods. This position supports student safety, encourages appropriate behavior, and promotes respectful interactions while helping students follow school rules and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise students during lunch and recess for grades K–5.
• Monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
• Encourage positive social interactions and appropriate conflict resolution.
• Enforce school rules and safety procedures consistently and fairly.
• Assist students as needed during lunch, including opening food containers or addressing minor concerns.
• Observe playground activities and intervene appropriately when safety concerns or behavioral issues arise.
• Report injuries, accidents, behavioral concerns, or disciplinary issues to the appropriate school staff or administrator.
• Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, staff, and families as appropriate.
• Assist with the orderly transition of students to and from the cafeteria and playground.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children is preferred but not required.
• Ability to supervise groups of elementary-aged students in indoor and outdoor settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively with school staff.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to observe and respond quickly to student needs and safety concerns.

Work Environment

This position works in school cafeterias, playgrounds, hallways, and other school areas during student lunch and recess periods. The work environment is active and requires continuous supervision of elementary-aged students.

• Pay Rate: $14.00 per hour
