Position Overview

Louisa County High School Athletics Department is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered Head Boys Soccer Coach to lead and develop a competitive high school soccer program. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and a commitment to the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes.

The Head Boys Soccer Coach will be responsible for establishing a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and competitive excellence while representing the school and community with pride.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead all aspects of the high school boys soccer program.
• Develop and implement effective practice plans, game strategies, and player development opportunities.
• Establish and maintain a positive team culture built on respect, accountability, sportsmanship, and high expectations.
• Promote the academic success, character development, and overall well-being of student-athletes.
• Communicate professionally and consistently with student-athletes, parents, assistant coaches, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
• Select team members and establish playing roles based on established program expectations and evaluations.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
• Work collaboratively with the athletic director to coordinate schedules, facilities, equipment, transportation, and other program needs.
• Support the development and alignment of the soccer program across the junior varsity and varsity levels.
• Ensure compliance with Virginia High School League (VHSL) regulations, school division policies, and all applicable coaching requirements.
• Maintain appropriate documentation, including rosters, eligibility information, participation records, and required safety documentation.
• Attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
• Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a positive representative of the school and community.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of soccer fundamentals, player development, tactics, and game management.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and school administrators.
• Commitment to student-athlete safety, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal development.
• Ability to work effectively with coaches and personnel across multiple levels of a school athletic program.
• Ability to meet all applicable school division and VHSL coaching requirements.
• Current required certifications and training, or willingness to complete them within the required timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous high school soccer coaching experience.
• Experience developing and maintaining a successful soccer program.
• Experience supervising and mentoring assistant coaches.
• Familiarity with VHSL rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
• Experience with player evaluation, program development, and long-term athlete development.
