Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment, ice machines, appliances and washer/dryer systems throughout the District. Employee must also provide support and have knowledge of typical HVAC systems and be able to assist primary HVAC crew.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver’s license

Texas air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of refrigeration equipment repairs, maintenance and installation techniques

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics and written reference material

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Ability to use hand and power tools

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years refrigeration repair/installation/maintenance experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of refrigeration equipment including icemakers
• Install new refrigeration and components
• Relocate and expand existing refrigeration equipment as needed
• Repair, replace and calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring
• Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and piping according to specifications and code
• Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics
• Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements
• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all refrigeration equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils
• Receive and complete work orders, accurately recording time and materials used
• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates
• Maintain inventory of district owned tools, equipment and materials
• Inspect projects upon completion and ensure areas are clean
• Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects
• Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures
• Respond to emergency calls as needed
• Perform all work within generally accepted industry standards and applicable codes
• Assist with HVAC repairs/modifications/installations as needed
• Maintain other kitchen equipment including dishwashers, steam tables and pass thru coolers

SAFETY

• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any uncorrectable conditions to supervisor immediately

Tools/Equipment Used: Meter, gauges, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, light van or truck

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Continuous driving vehicles; continuous working with machinery. Frequent district wide travel

Environment: Work inside and outside; exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity; exposed to electrical energy; work around machinery with moving parts, work around moving objects, working on roof tops, in boiler rooms and cooling towers.
