Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Support the installation and maintenance of district security systems including video surveillance / IP camera, access control, intrusion alarm, public address, visitor management, employee badging, and related software/hardware. Maintain district low voltage systems by performing inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance to ensure systems are functioning properly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas Class C driver license

Industry certifications as applicable - video surveillance, access control, intrusion alarm

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of low voltage electronics, video surveillance / IP camera systems, public address and sound systems, telecommunications systems, and basic electronics

Knowledge with Verkada Command

Knowledge of Microsoft computer operating systems and Microsoft Office products

Knowledge of basic network infrastructure

Aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks

Ability to work under pressure in emergencies

Ability to work within a diverse culture

Ability to serve as a role model for all district employees by exhibiting behavior that is ethical, courteous, and responsible

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience working on related low voltage systems (preferred)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Technical Support

  • Perform installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and repair on access control, intrusion alarm, video surveillance / IP camera, intercom, visitor management, and employee badging systems in accordance with applicable codes, best practices and department processes.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of access control, security system hardware, software, card readers, electronic locking hardware, linear power supplies, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems.
  • Support other department technicians in the field as needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Operate vehicle to transport tools and equipment needed to perform duties.
  • Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in good working condition and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  • Provide support to campus staff as needed to improve system operations.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Perform periodic after-hour standby duty to respond to technical issues as needed.
  • Assist with safety & security drills as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Safety and Security Department on safety & security needs as they arise.

Other

  • Promote departmental culture of customer service through frequent communication, positive relationships, and prompt support.
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution with administrators, staff, and parents.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local Board policy
  • Comply with all District and campus routines and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment such as personal computer; desk/cellular phone, copier/fax machine and others. Tools and equipment such as school district vehicles, radio communication equipment, mobile phones, power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, scissors lift and safety equipment. Duty uniform.

Posture: Continual walking with frequent sitting and standing; ability to climb a ladder.

Motion: Continual walking with frequent twisting, reaching above shoulder-level, bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity to complete tasks. Must be able to work in tiring, uncomfortable positions.

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying, 15-50 pounds

Environment: Exposure to temperature extremes (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to humidity extremes; exposure to noise; exposure to dust; ability to tolerate odors; exposure to low or intense illumination; exposure to vibration; exposure to biological hazards, exposure to chemical hazards; electrical hazards; work inside and outside; work around machinery with moving parts; prolonged exposure to sunlight; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; working alone; frequent districtwide travel; ability to transport materials/supplies; working a flexible schedule with little or no notice of shift change; and working prolonged or irregular hours.
