Job Description

Primary Purpose

Execute day-to-day security operations, multi-cloud and endpoint monitoring, vulnerability remediation, third-party software assessments, and incident response triage. Maintain security controls across email security, content filtering, MFA, firewalls, NAC, XDR, and digital certificate management across District systems.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or related field (preferred).

Security+, CySA+, GSEC, or equivalent technical certification (preferred).

Special Knowledge/Skills

Operational knowledge of security administration across networks, endpoints, email protection systems, firewalls, NAC, and web content filtering.

Practical experience monitoring multi-cloud environments and verifying cloud security configurations.

Hands-on experience administering Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and user access controls.

Experience with SIEM, SOAR playbooks, XDR, email security platforms, and infrastructure monitoring tools.

Familiarity with threat intelligence monitoring, compromised credential alerts, and anti-phishing simulations.

Working knowledge of vulnerability scanning tools, remediation tracking, and baseline penetration testing principles.

Familiarity with third-party application security evaluation processes and SSL/TLS digital certificate tracking.

Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or Shell) for automated tasks and log parsing.

Knowledge of NIST CSF, Texas Cybersecurity Framework, and K-12 data privacy standards.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, system administration, or network security support.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Day-to-Day Security Operations & Systems Administration
  • Monitor, triage, and respond daily to alerts from XDR, SIEM, email security platforms, credential exposure monitors, and network monitoring tools.
  • Support and maintain MFA policies, NAC profiles, firewall rules, and web content filtering categories.
  • Validate log feeds and verify automated playbook actions within SIEM and SOAR platforms.
  • Assist in monitoring and securing multi-cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Track and maintain digital SSL/TLS certificates across District web applications, sites, and servers.

Vulnerability Management, Testing & Third-Party Review

  • Conduct routine vulnerability scans across servers, network hardware, endpoints, and cloud assets; coordinate remediation with technical teams.
  • Assist with routine penetration testing tasks and security checks on web applications and external portals.
  • Assist in evaluating the security posture of third-party software, SaaS tools, and EdTech platforms prior to adoption.

Incident Response & User Awareness

  • Investigate cybersecurity events, suspicious emails, phishing attempts, malware detections, and compromised user accounts.
  • Assist in administering District simulated phishing campaigns and cybersecurity awareness programs for staff.
  • Assist Technology Operations, Networking, and Information Systems teams with security needs and access permissions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, procedure logs, and threat incident reports.
  • Stay informed on changing cybersecurity techniques, vulnerabilities, and technology best practices.

  • Promote departmental culture of customer service through frequent communication, positive relationships, and prompt support.
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution with administrators, staff, and parents.
  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities, including end-user training and documentation.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local Board policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
