Poms/Dance Team Coach

Coaching Summary

The Poms Coach is responsible for leading a middle school poms program that develops students' dance skills, teamwork, confidence, leadership, and sportsmanship. The coach creates a positive and supportive environment where students grow both personally and as performers while representing Maple School with pride and integrity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
• Previous coaching, dance, performance, or related experience preferred
• Experience working with middle school students preferred
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required prior to the season

Coaching Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead practices approximately three days per week from 3:35-5:00 p.m.
• Prepare students for scheduled halftime performances at selected basketball games.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director to select basketball games for halftime performances.
• Supervise and support students before, during, and after practices and performances.
• Teach dance technique, choreography, performance skills, teamwork, and appropriate performance etiquette.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, administrators, and the Athletic Director.
• Ride the athletic bus to the scheduled away performance at Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights.
• Prepare students for the scheduled Friday performance at Thomas Middle School, which is expected to conclude at approximately 6:45 p.m.
• Maintain costumes, equipment, and other program materials.
• Model professionalism, positive sportsmanship, and appropriate conduct.
• Follow all District, conference, and IESA rules and expectations, as applicable.

Experience and Knowledge

• Knowledge of poms, dance, choreography, performance, or related skills.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and support middle school students.
• Ability to create and teach age-appropriate choreography.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and school administration.

Physical Demands

• Ability to demonstrate poms/dance and performance skills during practices.
• Ability to stand, move, and actively supervise practices and performances.
• Ability to lift and transport costumes, equipment, and other program materials.

Terms of Employment

This is an extra-duty stipend position, compensated in accordance with Appendix B of the District 30 Education Association's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
