Senior High Declamation (Speech) Assistant Coach

Albany Area Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and supportive Assistant Speech Coach to help students develop their public speaking, performance, and communication skills.

Position and Duties:

The Assistant Coach will work with the Head Coach to support the senior high speech program. Responsibilities include:

• Assist with planning and leading practices and preparing students for competitions.
• Help students select and develop speech material appropriate for their competition categories.
• Provide individual and small-group coaching in delivery, interpretation, presentation, and confidence.
• Attend assigned practices, meets, and tournaments.
• Assist with student supervision, scheduling, and competition arrangements.
• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive, inclusive environment.
• Follow district policies and applicable competition rules.

Qualifications:

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to encourage and support high school students with varying experience levels.
• Knowledge of speech activities or public speaking preferred.
• Availability for practices and competitions, including evenings and weekends as scheduled.
