Job Title: Modified Boys & Girls Track & Field Assistant Coach

Position Overview:

Cooperstown Central School is seeking a supportive and energetic Modified Boys & Girls Track & Field Assistant Coach to work alongside the head coach in delivering a developmentally appropriate and engaging track and field experience for middle school student-athletes. This coach will assist in teaching basic event techniques, encouraging participation, and promoting teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun and structured environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with planning and running daily practices across various track and field events (sprints, distance, throws, jumps, relays)
• Provide individual and small group instruction on foundational skills and techniques
• Help supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team travel
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging team environment
• Support positive communication between athletes, families, and school personnel
• Collaborate with the head coach to organize meet participation and team logistics
• Ensure adherence to NYSPHSAA, Section III, and school district policies

Qualifications:

Required:

• Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:

• CPR and First Aid Certification
• DASA Training
• Concussion Management Certification
• SAVE Training
• Fingerprint clearance through NYSED

Preferred:

• Experience in track and field as a coach or athlete
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with middle school-aged students
• Commitment to promoting fitness, confidence, and teamwork
