Job Title: Varsity Softball Head Coach

Position Overview:

Cooperstown Central School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Varsity Softball Head Coach to lead our high school softball program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes. This position plays a critical role in shaping a competitive, respectful, and team-oriented program that reflects the values of Cooperstown athletics.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct high-level practices that emphasize skill development, strategy, and teamwork
• Develop and implement game plans, manage in-game decisions, and lead the team throughout the season
• Teach and reinforce fundamental and advanced softball techniques
• Promote sportsmanship, character, academic success, and leadership among student-athletes
• Supervise athletes during all practices, games, and team-related activities
• Collaborate with JV and Modified coaches to maintain a cohesive program philosophy
• Maintain equipment, uniforms, and team records
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, and the athletic department
• Ensure compliance with all NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district regulations and policies

Qualifications:

Required:

• Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:

• CPR and First Aid Certification
• DASA Training
• Concussion Management Certification
• SAVE Training
• Fingerprint clearance through NYSED

•

Preferred:

• Previous head or assistant coaching experience at the varsity or collegiate level
• Strong knowledge of softball rules, strategies, and advanced techniques
• Proven leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to mentor student-athletes on and off the field
• Experience coordinating with athletic departments and managing team operations
