The North Plainfield School District invites applications for an Elementary American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher, Maternity Leave Replacement position, from September to December 2026.

For those still in the process of attaining certification, please know that the North Plainfield School District is approved for participation in the NJDOE Limited Certificate Program, which may allow you to work in a full-time role as you complete your final certification requirements. Qualifications Include

• New Jersey Certification as a Teacher of American Sign Language (ASL) or appropriate New Jersey World Languages certification with an ASL endorsement (required).
• Strong knowledge of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for World Languages and proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Experience teaching ASL or World Languages at the elementary level is preferred but not required.
• Instructional expertise � Proficiency in lesson planning, classroom management, curriculum development, assessment, and the use of diverse educational resources.
• Student-centered instruction � Ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that build students' communication skills and cultural understanding.
• Data-informed instruction � Ability to use student performance data and formative assessments to inform instructional decisions and support student growth.
• Collaborative mindset � Ability to work effectively with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
• Cultural competency � Commitment to fostering an appreciation and understanding of Deaf culture, language, and diverse communities.
• Growth mindset � Commitment to ongoing professional development and instructional improvement.

$69,630 - $103,470 commensurate with experience.
